Local Buses
Chapel Hill Transit is the local transit provider for Carrboro. Routes that serve Carrboro include the J, F, CM, CW, and HS. Chapel Hill Transit bus service is free.
Regional Buses
Go Triangle is the transit provider for the Triangle region, connecting Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Research Triangle Park, and other municipalities in the region. Carrboro is served by the GoTriangle 405 route.

Orange County Transit Plan Update
The Orange County Transit Plan Update is currently in development and will help identify transit improvements (both service and infrastructure) that can receive funding from the County's sales tax.

NC 54 Pedestrian and Bicycle Corridor Safety Study (2019)
In January 2018, the Carrboro Planning and Police departments sent a letter to NCDOT in support of a request from Chapel Hill to conduct a corridor study for NC 54, between Old Fayetteville Road and Columbia Street with a focus on improving pedestrian and bicycle safety accessing transit stops.
NCDOT engaged VHB Engineering to perform data collection and safety analysis for the corridor, which was extended to Manning Drive in Chapel Hill.
- A kick-off meeting was held in January of 2019, which included an overview of the project corridor, and an initial site visit by the project team.
- During the spring, VHB developed an existing conditions assessment and presented that information to the project team.
- A survey was distributed to gather feedback from people who travel regularly along the corridor to help identified areas of concern.
- The project team met again in July 2019 to review preliminary project recommendations and coordination between this project and the bike plan update.
- VHB held a public meeting at Franklin Porter Graham Elementary School in November 2019 to seek input on the proposed recommendations.
This study did not identify funding for projects; rather, it identified recommendations for NCDOT, the Town of Carrboro, and the Town of Chapel Hill to implement. The first projects to incorporate recommendations from the NC 54 Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Study include the design/installation of three signalized pedestrian crossings at Westbrook Drive, Abbey Lane, and Kingswood/Laurel Avenue (BL-0044), and pedestrian signals at South Greensboro and NC 54 that will be included as part of the South Greensboro Street Sidewalk project (C-5650).
